Darlene Love – ‘It's Christmas, Of Course’

By Jeff Swindoll Nov 5, 2007, 14:53 GMT

Darlene Love has become somewhat of a Christmas tradition in that she performs the song “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on the Late Show with David Letterman as a yearly tradition (seventeen years straight according to the back of the CD).  She sang the song on the album “A Christmas Gift for you from Phil Spector.”

Now that after the press that Spector has been getting lately that you’d accept a gift from this bewigged, mad Santa anymore.  However, this holiday song was one that Love has become known for.

So now she tries her hand at other holiday tunes, some of which made famous by other artists – turnabout is only fair play since many have covered her song.

She does “Christmas All Over Again” made famous by Tom Petty, “Santa Claus go Straight to the Ghetto” by James Brown, and “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Love has a strong voice and puts it to great use in all of the songs on the album.  If you’re a fan of her appearances on Letterman, the tune, or of just Christmas music in general you’ll want to give this album a spin.

Phil Spector is a musical genius and his Christmas Album is one of the best Christmas albums there is. It has always been in the top 5 of any Christmas Album list. It is a must have for anyone and one should be proud to give or receive it.
