Album Review: Josh Groban – ‘Noel’
By Jeff Swindoll Oct 22, 2007, 14:36 GMT

The Grammy-nominated, twenty-something, pop-classical phenomenon\'s fourth studio album is an expertly accomplished entry to the holiday marketplace. Noël tackles the familiar sounds of holiday music with a charmingly eclectic array of guest vocalists and a wide range of material. The songs range from the sacred to the secular, while Groban--buoyed in spots by none other than the London Symphony Orchestra--soars in his duets with Brian McKnight, Faith Hill, and the ...more
Tis the season for all music stars so inclined to start getting their Christmas albums into the stores. Just in time for Halloween, Josh Groban brings out his holiday effort. Why not?
Some horror movies open in December to try and garner some business so why not some Christmas stuff coming out in the horror month (a bunch of Christmas DVDs also came out this month too)?
Groban gathers the London Symphony Orchestra, guitarist Andy McKee (“Little Drummer Boy”), Brian McKnight (“Angels We Have Heard on High”), Faith Hill (“The First Noel”), and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (“O Come All Ye Faithful”) to spread holiday cheer.
Groban also has some holiday favorites that he does solo, including “Silent Night,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “The Christmas Song.” I’m always a softie for Christmas music and come December (well, maybe a little after Thanksgiving) I’ll fire up the CD player at the office and listen to some holiday cheer (much to one coworkers chagrin – she grumbles something about putting a stake of holly through my heart).
I liked Groban’s contribution to my Christmas collection and if you’re a fan they you will too. Happy Halloween and Merry Christmas.

When I heard Josh Groban was coming out with a christmas cd, I knew then I had to buy it so two days later I headed out to hmv and bought it right away!!! One of the best things I've ever done! I can't wait for Halloween to be over so I can truly appreciate his cd. This cd mixes two of my favourite things together Christmas and Josh Groban!!! Petit Papa Noel was one of my favourite songs when I was a little girl in a french-catholic school. I died when I found out he sang it on this cd!!! A nust have for any Josh Groban fan!!!
Wonderful! Josh Groban's new Christmas CD is a joy and a triumph! Buy it for yourself, and one to give. If you like Christmas music at all, you'll love this one!
Great album. Took a while to really enjoy it but it is definitely Josh's unique style. It's refreshing, unique and powerful.
It really is an amazing CD!
I just wish it were always Christmas when I hear it.

It's a nice collection, just enough with the familiarity to make it easily accessible with enough eclecticism to keep it from sounding like the same old, same old, and with Groban's lovely, rich, holiday-perfect voice.
And a definite thumb's up on Drummer Boy-- he took the one Christmas Carol I've always hated and made it palatable. That's pretty impressive by my standards.
