Album Review: Division Day – ‘Beartrap Island’

By Jeff Swindoll Oct 3, 2007, 20:47 GMT

Division Day is a rock band that consists of Rohner Segnitz (vocals and keyboards), Seb Bailey (bass), Kevin Lenhart (drums), and Ryan Wilson (guitar).  The album is their full-length debut. However, they’ve been working on it since 2005.

The album does feature some new songs and remixes of songs that they’ve been working on since 2005 (the band was formed in 2001).  Since I’m not really familiar with the band I couldn’t tell you what’s new and what’s not.  From the sound of things they do have a popular touring show and appeared at SXSW.

The band aims to take you on a musical tour of the titular island and it appears to be filled with some fearsome beasts.  The concept comes from the band’s adopted hometown of Los Angeles, California.  To that end some of the songs are a bit rough on the ears, as would the noises of traffic, etc. be.

The title track starts off with guitar squawk noises that sound like a bit of backed up traffic before starting into the tune.  The lyrics buzz by as such traffic so I can’t say that I caught them all, but they do have a good sound and the songs have a great beat.

I’d say that gravitate more towards punk and if you like that genre then you’ll want to give Division Day a spin.
