Album Review: The Perishers – ‘Victorious’

By Jeff Swindoll Sep 3, 2007, 15:01 GMT

The Perishers are a Swedish rock band.  Now the last time that my Swiss cheese brain remembered hearing the sounds of Sweden they were in Swedish (Dungen: Tio Bitar) and the lyrics were uninterruptible by me (although they band did rock really good, only Swedes would understand what they were saying though).

Luckily The Perishers are English speakers (or is that singers?).  They are Ola Kluft (vocals, guitar), Martin Gustafson (keyboard), Pehr Astrom (bass), and Thomas Hedlund (drums).

Their songs have appears on a few TV shows (The O.C., One Tree Hill, and Veronica Mars).  I would expect that tunes from this new album, ‘Victorious,’ might be heard on television sometime soon.  The band has a good sound and interesting lyrics.

One that caught my ear was “Get Well Soon.”  Sounds innocuous right?  However, my interpretation is that it’s a boyfriend who has gotten his girlfriend pregnant and is leaving her.  That’s my interpretation; the band might say it’s about shopping for auto parts for all I know.

I liked what I heard and the group had some haunting melodies.  If you’re familiar with the group from Veronica Mars (the featured song was “Sway”) then you’ll like what you hear.  If you’re not then you might give them a chance to bend your ear.

‘Victorious’ is now available at Amazon. Visit the music database for more information.
