“So much trash on the radio today” is the chorus of The Automatic Automatic’s song “You Shout You Shout You Shout You Shout.” Thankfully, that doesn’t apply to them.
The Automatic Automatic is another in the long line of “The” (The View, The Fratellis, The Feeling, with The Almost in the stack and upcoming) bands that have been crossing the ole review desk recently. They also happen to be from across the pond and are based in Cardiff, Wales. The band consists of Robin Hawkins (vocals, bass), Alex Pennie (keyboards), James Frost (guitar), and Iwan Griffiths (drums).
They’re a mixture of electric, disco, metal, and rock and the album reflects it. However, with that diverse mix of genres it means that the listener will find something to like on the album.
“That’s What She Said” is a favorite, along with “You Shout (x4),” and “Monster.” The album does sound like a mixture of the different genres mentioned as well as having some songs that lean more towards a particular genre. However, they all sound good and the album is recommended.
They have an interesting, rocking style and some good lyrics. I think that if you give them a listen that you’ll find something to like as well. Cheers.
