‘Oh! Gravity’ is the sixth album from Switchfoot. It follows their double platinum ‘The Beautiful Letdown’ and gold albums ‘Nothing is Sound’ and ‘Learning to Breathe.’ The group was founded by brothers Jon (vocals, songwriter, guitar) and Tim Foreman (bass, backing vocals) in 1996.
They also have a somewhat spiritual bent to their lyrics that lead some to classify them as a Christian band, but the band shies away from that title. The songs lyrics do deal with social issues.
The band also has Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keys, backing vocals), Drew Shirley (guitar), and Chad Butler (drums). For the curious, “Switchfoot” is a surfing term meaning to shift your feet on the surfboard to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. They also have a somewhat spiritual bent to their lyrics that lead some to classify them as a Christian band, but the band shies away from that title.
The songs lyrics do deal with social issues. For example, “American Dream” deals with success and the excess that comes with it and how it really ends up wrecking those seeking it. I couldn’t help but think of Britney.
The other tracks are “Oh! Gravity,” “American Dream,” “Dirty Second Hands,” “Awakening,” “Circles,” “Amateur Lovers,” “Faust, Midas, and Myself,” “Head Over Heels (in this life),” “Yesterdays,” “Burn Out Bright,” “4:12,” and “Let Your Love Be Strong.”
I really enjoyed the album and think that fans will be clamoring for the new album and others will find something to like in the lyrics and music. I know that I thought that it was a very good album.
