It’s Vegas, baby and the Chairman’s always at home in Vegas. Badda bing. The Sinatra estate and Reprise bring this wonderful 5 disc set of the Chairman of the Board’s Vegas concerts.
Disc One is a concert at the Sands recorded in November 1961. Disc Two was also recorded at the Sands in January-February of 1966. This concert also features Count Basie and his Orchestra. Disc Three is at Caesar’s Palace in March 1982. Disc Four is at the Golden Nugget in April 1987. Disc Five is a DVD of a concert at Caesar’s Palace in May 1978.
All of your Sinatra favorites are on the discs, including “Come Fly with Me,” “Witchcraft,” “The Lady is a Tramp,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Luck be a Lady,” “My Way,” and many more. Frank even duets with Nancy Sinatra for “Somethin’ Stupid” on the March 1982 concert.
Two of the discs have bonuses to the concerts. On Disc One Sinatra speaks on segregation in Nevada and on Disc Two he speaks on working with Count Basie. The DVD also features two commercials for Sinatra: Freedom to Live (a modern commercial about Vegas tourism featuring vintage clips of Sinatra) and has PCM Mono, 2.0 Stereo, and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio options.
The set also has a 59 page booklet filled with commentary from stars (including quotes from Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., etc.), Sinatra-ologists, band members, and rare photographs. The set is also housed in a lovely black box and contains two Sinatra concert poster reproductions.
The set is a time machine that allows the listener to journey back to Las Vegas yesteryear with the Chairman. The Sands of Sinatra’s time was imploded in 1996, but the Palace and Golden Nugget are still around and now you can relive those concerts via the wonders of audio (put on your headphones and walk in, daddy-o).
This set is a must have for fans of the Chairman, fans of live concerts, or those that want to journey back to the sounds of old Vegas, baby. It is the perfect Christmas present for any of those. Whatever the occasion, the set is highly recommended.
