Velvet Revolver says goodbye to Scott Weiland

Citing “increasingly erratic” behavior as a reason, the four founding members of Velvet Revolver announced they were splitting from singer Scott Weiland.

The announcement was made through a statement by the band’s management company, and comes on the heels of Weiland’s planned reunion with his Stone Temple Pilot band members for a summer tour.

STP has announced several summer dates kicking off with the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio, on May 17-18. The festival with mark the first time Weiland (who has been known for his troubles off stage as well as his talent on stage) has played with STP since the band’s tour in support of 2001's ‘Shangri-La Dee Da.’

Weiland joined Velvet Revolver – which features former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum along with second guitarist Dave Kushner – following the break-up of STP.

Velvet Revolver has seen huge success with the release of two studio albums, but has also had to deal with Weiland's continued legal problems – which has forced the band to juggle concert dates and other promotional dates.

In a statement from the band, Slash was quoted as saying: "This band is all about its fans and its music, and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either."

He is further quoted saying: “Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on.”

Weiland and STP have yet to comment on the singer’s departure from Velvet Revolver.
