Suge Knight’s role in Death Row Records coming to an end?

The label that helped create the West Coast hip-hop sound and cement Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre as icons of rap could be closing its doors. Record mogul  Marion "Suge" Knight has said that he is ready move on from his days at Death Row Records.

In an interview with Page Six, Knight, who is 42, stated he is ready to walk away from the label he helped start in 1991. The decision comes on the heels of Knight paying two visits to the City of Refuge Church near his hometown of Compton.

In the Page Six article, Knight states the two preachers (Noel Jones and T.D. Jakes) discussed the same topic and that he felt the sermons were aimed right at him. Knight said the sermons helped him decide that he wanted to “move on” and find a “more positive direction."

Since he helped start Death Row Records, Knight has had a history of legal problems – including a $106 million judgment won by Lydia Harris against the label that held her husband helped start Death Row and should receive a 50 percent share of its profits. The ruling caused Death Row Records to file bankruptcy.

The bankruptcy court has asked Knight to remain with Death Row Records while it is under Chapter 11 reorganization, but the mogul has stated he wants to sell off his rights in the company, pay off the bills, and end his relationship with Death Row Records.
