Roger Daltrey, singer with "The Who," picked up his CBE from the Queen yesterday.
However, despite the honor the rock star reckons The Who's brand of music might not be suitable for palace ears.
After the presentation he said: ""I don’t think she’s a rock ’n’ roll fan. She’d probably fall off her podium if she heard The Who’s songs.
"A good blast of My Generation would go down quite well now."
Daltrey was being honored for his contribution to music over the years in addition to charity work he carries out.
He also had some words of praise for the Queen saying: "I still have criticisms of the Establishment but the Queen is an exceptional woman. I think she’s amazing.
"You can criticize the Establishment but you can’t criticize the Queen."
Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend met at school and formed a band called "The Detours," this morphed into "The Who" and well...The rest is history. Keith Moon, the band's drummer, died in 1978 and bassist John Entwhistle in 2002; leaving Townshend and Daltrey as the last remaining members of the band.
The singer's charity work is with the Teenage Cancer Trust through which he has helped raise more than $3.6 million.
He finished by saying: "I didn’t expect to get this. None of us work alone so I accept this for those that don’t get anything.
"I know there are criticisms of the honors system but there would be of any honors. I am very honored."
