“Wonderfully eccentric and trend-detached, The Darkness also stand on their heads (sometimes literally) to deliver the most unashamedly entertaining show in contemporary hard rock.”-- LA WEEKLY (10/19/12)
As the multi-platinum British rock group The Darkness prepare to return to the U.S. for their headlining “Let Them Eat Cakes” world tour, their third album "Hot Cakes" is making its mark on Best of 2012 album lists at iTunes, Amazon and Google.
iTunes named HOT CAKES the Best Rock Comeback album of 2012 while Google Play and Amazon featured it in their Best Albums of 2012: Google Play, Amazon.
The LP has received wide critical praise.
Magnet magazine hailed the group’s “solid, tuneful rock pop” (9/2012), while the Associated Press noted, “Hot Cakes just exudes fun. ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us’ has a feel-good 1980s rocking chorus and guitar solos you can imagine being played in atop a huge speaker in a stadium” (8/20/12).
Elsewhere, Pitchfork noted their “…rich, harmonic solos.” (8/16/12) and Paste said, “Hot Cakes is the most varied record of the Darkness’ canon 11 killer-no-filler songs that steer through the ‘70’s and early 80’s and veer from fist-pumping anthems to mid-tempo good-time rock all with an ear for a killer pop hook.
