Beastie Boys, Chili Peppers among Rock Hall of Fame nominees

New York - Rap pioneers the Beastie Boys and alt rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers were among the nominees announced Tuesday for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The other nominees included The Cure, Donovan, Eric B & Rakim, Guns 'N Roses, Heart, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Freddie King, Laura Nyro, Rufus with Chaka Khan, The Small Faces/The Faces, The Spinners, Donna Summer and War.
'The 2012 nominees embody the broad scope of what rock and roll means,' said Joel Peresman, president and chief executive of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. 'From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.'
To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2012 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1986. The winners will be announced on April 14.
