Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has died at the age of 27. The cause of the Grammy-winning singer’s death is unexplained, but she was pronounced dead by officers around 4 p.m., on Saturday, at her Camden Square home in London.
A press release from the Metropolitan Police stated officers were dispatched by London Ambulance Service to the address and the cause of death is still under investigation.
Winehouse broke big with her sophomore album ‘Back to Black’ and its hit single “Rehab.” The 2006 album saw Winehouse take home five Grammy Awards (she was nominated for six) – including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In 2007, Winehouse won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist.
Blessed with a voice that reminded of the blues rock of yesterday, Winehouse became better known for her struggle with drugs and alcohol. The singer spent time in rehab and was in the process of trying to mount a return to music.
In June, Winehouse was forced to cancel a series of concerts in Serbia following a performance where she reportedly had trouble standing during the show.
Although she can be called an icon in rock music (many credit her voice and style with launching the wave of strong female pop stars today), Winehouse only managed to release two albums and a handful of singles.
