Phil Collins set to kick off Montreux Jazz Festival
Jul 1, 2010, 15:23 GMT
Geneva - British musicians Phil Collins will Thursday kick off this year's Montreux Jazz Festival with what is being billed as a special pre-show dedicated to rhythm and blues.
While the two-week music event officially starts Friday, the eight-time Grammy winner will perform a special tribute to Motown and Soul music.
Festival organizers say the Motown label in the 1960s was a 'monument in music history that brought the world artists such as The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and Smokey Robinson.'
Tickets for the sold-out Collins show ranged from 140-380 Swiss francs (130-355 dollars).
The 44th edition of the annual festival along Lake Geneva in Switzerland is set to see a variety of acts, including Regina Spektor, jazz guitarist Pat Methany, electric act Massive Attack and rapper Nas. A night dedicated to African music will take place on July 9.
