U2 has announced its 360° North American Tour will be postponed until 2011 following lead singer Bono’s emergency back surgery in Munich.
The singer has been discharged from Ludwig Maximilians-University (LMU) Hospital in Munich, but his doctors have suggested he start a rehabilitation program and to recuperate for at least eight weeks.
The surgery and rehabilitation has forced the band to postpone 16 shows on the U2 360° Tour from Salt Lake City on June 3rd, through to New Jersey’s Meadowlands Stadium on July 19th.
In a press release, Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt confirmed: "Bono suffered severe compression of the sciatic nerve. On review of his MRI scan, I realized there was a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc, and that conservative treatment would not suffice. I recommended Bono have emergency spine surgery with Professor Tonn at Munich’s LMU University Hospital on Friday."
Wohlfahrt stated the singer would need eight weeks to fully recover from the surgery and that the rehabilitation would start out light and increase intensity during the next eight weeks.
Additional details on rescheduled dates will follow shortly and fans are encouraged to hold on to their tickets. U2 fans can visit www.U2.com for ongoing tour updates.
