Abba and Genesis set for induction to rock's Hall of Fame
Mar 15, 2010, 19:22 GMT
New York - Veteran progressive rockers Genesis, pop supergroup Abba, reggae great Jimmy Cliff, punk iconoclasts The Stooges and Britrock pioneers The Hollies were set to be inducted Monday night into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The inductees 'represent a great cross-section of artists that define the broad spectrum and history of rock 'n' roll and people that have contributed immeasurably to our business,' Joel Peresman, president and chief executive of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said when the honorees were named in December.
Disappointing many of their fans, Swedish supergroup Abba will not be taking the stage for the first time since they split at the peak of their popularity in 1982. Two original members of the band, Agnetha Faltskog, who doesn't fly, and songwriting partner Bjorn Ulvaeus will skip the event. According to Billboard magazine, Faith Hill will perform Abba songs in tribute to the group.
Some members of the Hollies will also be missing, as will founding Genesis member Peter Gabriel. Among the presenters will be Wyclef Jean, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, and the BeeGees Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb.
