Los Angeles - Superstar Beyonce and country newcomer Taylor Swift dominated the Grammy nominations announced Wednesday night.
Beyonce, 28, nabbed 10 nominations including album of the year for I Am Sasha Fierce, song of the year for Single Ladies and record of the year for Halo.
Swift, just 19, received eight nominations. She was nominated in the album, song and record of the year.
Other nominees for album of the year included sensational newcomer Lady Gaga, who got five nominations in total, the Dave Matthews Band and the Black Eyed Peas, who grabbed six nominations. Crooner Maxwell and Kanye West got six nominations apiece, while Jay-Z got five.
The nominations were announced on a live television special that saw many of the nominees perform, including the Black Eyed Peas, Sugarland, and Nick Jonas.
Among the big losers on the night was rapper Kanye West, a controversial figure at several recent award shows, whose album, 808s and Heartbreak, was shut out of the major categories.
The Grammys are considered the Oscars of the American music industry and are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The 52nd Grammy Awards will be presented on January 31 at Los Angeles' Staples Centre.
