That is the stupiest thing i've ever heard. No similarity at all!!!
no!, of course they didn't!
Yes, Satriani has a case; it's the same song with lyrics added. Sorry Coldplay....
I love Satch, but i don't really here anything that will hold up in court.
John, checkout . Coldplay ripped off Satch. At least they have good taste because it's an awesome song!
The songs are in different keys, but Coldplay's vocal melody obviously mimics Satriani's guitar melody. I do not believe the chord progression is exactly the same, but they both support a similar melody. The issue here is whether Coldplay deliberately plagiarized Satch, and that's a hefty accusation to make! Any writer who listens to popular music cannot help but produce something bearing resemblance to someone else's work, and it can very easily happen unintentionally. No one is entirely original, and it surprises me that Joe is taking this approach.
This day and age? Sampling everywhere?
COLD HEARTED PLAY THAT COPYCATS THE SACH BURY YOUR CHEATING PRETTY BOY HEADS IN THE SAND WHEN A GUITAR MASTER AND TEACHER CALLS YOUR BLUFF I THINK COLD PLAY SHOULD TAKE ANOTHER PUFF AND PUT THY HEADS IN THE MUFF!JOSTLE THE FOSSIL SATRIANI SUPER COLOSSAL!
anyone who says no, is tone deaf.
Its a good thing that Chuck Berry isn't as sensitive` as Joe Satriani, otherwise he would have sued every guitar based Pop/rock/blues band that ever wrote a song.
Doesn't Joe know that imitation is the highest form of flattery.
I hope you guys change your site name before Monster Cable owns your tail feathers ... lol
Yes, imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but that doesn't make the cash flow to the originator. Anybody have the Cat Stevens song which is supposed to be the 'real' original song?
Some of the melody are similar...But not the same at all !!
cold play has definitely copied the song
go get your award COLD PLAY... best plagiarism
Here's another one.
Have a Listen to Smashing Pumkins - Disarm
This also has parts resembling Coldplay's Viva LaVida. More so the Orchestral Timpan Drums, Cymbals and Strings and Church Bells. I certainly think Coldplay would have been doing A,B references between Pumkins and their own during the mixing and Mastering stages of this Song in the studio.
But hey Where would any musician get anywhere without picking a thing or two from the greats.
Definately similar melodoc sounds to Satrianis piece. All the best for Satch who i adore as a guitarist, but i think the whole thing's a media stir-up more than anything.
I totally agree with guitar4god's comment. It's in different keys and for the one part that sounds close, if you listen to both videos for that part, at the same time, you can hear distinctive differences. Today's music has a lot of inspiration from yesterday's music. Satriani should be happy that a hot band of the now generation like Coldplay is strumming tunes that perhaps he and other great guitarists of the past have inspired. There are a lot of songs out there that sound like other songs. It's called being creative and for true musicians, it's just showing their artistic talents.

The riffs are remarkably similar but when they are analyzed there will be enough differences between the two where Sach won't have a case strong enough to win.. I agree with the notion that he should just be happy with the publicity he's receiving from this story..
Some of the same chords but not even close.
Doesn't sound the same to me. I am not a huge fan of Coldplay but I do like the song and it doesn't sound that close to the Satriani song to me...
