Sting is recording a 'Songs for Tibet' album with a host of other music stars.
The Police frontman joins artists including John Mayer, Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette to lend his talent to the collection of songs.
The LP will highlight Tibet's struggle to be recognised as an autonomous state separate from China and will be released just days before the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games begins in August.
Michael Wohl - a spokesperson for the Art of Peace Foundation, which is compiling the album - said: "We wanted to express our support for the Tibetan people and their message of peace through music, a fundamental means of expression, at a time when the eyes of the world are on China."
The non-profit organisation, which supports Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, is behind the project.
Other artists to contribute include Moby, Garbage Rush, Suzanne Vega, Imogen Heap, Damien Rice, Underworld and Duncan Sheik.
Album producer Rupert Hine said: "The commitment and enthusiasm from such a wide group of artists has been astonishing and truly heartfelt. It's been exciting orchestrating such a historic project."
The album will have a global release on music website iTunes on August 5. A full CD release will follow on August 12.
China has controversially ruled Tibet since 1951. As many as 250 people were reportedly killed during a crackdown on Tibetan protesters in March this year that resulted in widespread rioting against the Chinese government.

Take it easy people don't go into frenzy like you are brainwashed by Mao's red book. Chinese people can cry out loud and accuse anybody of not knowing about China's history. What do you know about Tibet? Nothing. All you know is what is fed to you from your government. Do you really know the real situation if Tibet right now? Most likely not that’s why you are ready to defend China's repression of Tibetans. Because Chinese government doesn’t know about Tibetan Culture, Religion, Way of life and Thinking, They show absolutely no respect for our way of life. That is one of the many reason we have problem with Chinese government. I can go on and on but I know this will not change your attitude towards Tibet and Tibetans. I know majority of Chinese attitude towards Tibetans are backward, barbaric, superstitious and dirty. Did you know that there was mass uprising against Communist Government in March and April? Maybe not because you heard from your government that Tibetans hate Han Chinese and killed them. You saw the tv footage your government purposely made to inside racial hatred instead of harmonious society the Communist mantra. Did you know how many Tibetans are in prison? Tibetans showed the world that they don't want to live under Communist China. Uprising happened all over Tibet and Tibetan areas in Quingqai, Yunan, Schiuan. I am a Tibetan born and raised in Tibet and know how Chinese treat Tibetans. Don't try to teach me any lesson about Tibet.
Tibet is China's biggest problem and will remain that way so long as Chinese leaders are not sincere about resolving the Tibet issue.
Bohe Rangzen.
PS: you don't need to come to Tibet,Studying History Book is just OK.
well come???....but i wonder why you chinese leaders dont well come press in tibet....because i dont need to tell you...and thn tibet was a free country untill chinese invasted...o.k,,nw past is past..its time to look future,,as a tibetan i have my own individual right...and i dont want any saperation frm china....i need genaral autonomous state within people republic of china...i will be proud of being chinese cetizen...coz we need bigger education, bigger road, bigger economy....and the china is a huge contry,,,we can call the real unity...unity comes frm trust,,,nt under fear,,,guns and bulletsss....
