Michael Jackson's fan album

Jul 18, 2008, 10:30 GMT

Michael Jackson fans have been asked to choose their favourite tracks for a new album of the singer's greatest hits.

'King of Pop' is being released on August 29 to celebrate the 'Thriller' singer's 50th birthday.

Fans are being asked to select their 18 favourite songs from a choice of 50 Jackson tracks, and the most popular will appear on the compilation record.

Countries around the world will all host their own polls, meaning several different versions of the new record will be available - sparking speculation that devoted followers of the singer will travel the world in order to obtain a complete set of CDs.

One of Jackson's new songs was recently leaked online.

'Hold My Hand', featuring Akon, appeared on several websites and is reportedly due to feature on his long-awaited comeback album, which the 'Lonely' rapper is believed to be producing.

The mid-tempo track features the lyrics: "Things will get better if you just hold my hand."

The song has had a mostly positive response from commentators, with one fan saying the song marks "the return of the king".

No release date has been scheduled for the album, the follow up to 2001's 'Invincible'.

I'm sure 'Billie Jean' will make the cut. It was just named the best dance record ever made. I really hope 'Hold My Hand' is released as a single, that song is great and Michael sounds better then ever. It's truly amazing that all of these years later and his voice STILL sounds so wonderful!

I'm not sure who's in charge or how things work, but somebody needs to make it their first priority to ensure that Hold My Hand is released to radio ASAP! In my opinion, that song is a global hit. GLOBAL HIT, ya heard!

Ain't it funny how people who claim to not like Mr. Jackson, are always the first to read a story regarding Mr. Jackson and then the first to comment on said story. If you don't like a person, why would you waste your time reading about that person? LOL!

Billie Jean will always be the #1 song ever, since the day it was recorded. It is good that we are having atleast a few good media news coverage, otherwise they just have fun by bombarding the King with false news and made-up stories. Micheal, we are impatiently waiting for the release of your new album. We all want to see your new videos, you topping the charts once again, you touring... oh God! it would be fun... ummm i know you would be 50 soon, but that doesn't bothers us fans coz, for us you will always be 25 always so energetic, magic. We all love you Michael, will always stand by your side.

I thinnk MJ is simply the greatest musician of the 20th (and for now also the 21st) century. He simply is a genius of music in any form (singing, dancing, live performing, producing, video etc). I mean he really is a genius!
Simply there is no one else in the same league in the 20th century. Despite the major success they had, not even Elvis or Beatles could match the talent and the complete artist that MJ is. Yes, they were really fine singers, but MJ, with his talent, dedication to art, the readiness to die on scene just to complete his work, the soul and energy he puts in a performance, with his obsession to be perfect, well, he simply is on another level.
MJ is in the same league with Mozart. So, u think MJ is a little strange? A little more diferrent than the rest of us? Maybe a little nuts? U should read about Mozart's life! That guy was a total lunatic!!!!!! Read your art history... But then, show me a true genius talent in history that wasn't a little different than the rest of people...
Van Gogh cut his f**** ear!!!!!!
Leonardo da Vinci kept his private life secret. His sexuality has often been the subject of study, analysis and speculation.
What I mean is, jesus, u can not possiblly expect a genius to be just a regular guy like anyone else, just the guy next door. It just doesn't work that way. We're talking about artists here. They are, by definition, a little more strange than the rest of us.
And I trully believe MJ is in the same league with Mozart, Van Gogh and Leonardo. Compared to those guys, we can say that for a genius, MJ is quite close enugh to normality....more then we could've dream of...

I completely agree with Bambi. Michael Jackson is absolutely the greatest musician of the 20th century! If it wasn't for Michael Jackson, there would never be atleast 75% of successful artists of today. There would be no music videos or MTV. There would be no live performances with such huge attendance. No biggest world tours. No biggest endorsements and music contracts. To sum it up, he changed music like no one else in the industry. Don't you guys talk about Beatles and Elvis, they are not even worth a pimple on MJ's ass!

WILL THIS HATING OF MICHAEL JACKSON EVER STOP!!!!!!!! Michael jackson was found not guilty on all charges the fact is every hater out there just wishes that they could have achieved just 20% of what Michael has done for the music industry.
Any song that features on the 'KING OF POP ALBUM' to mark his 50th will be great and real special.

i agree with Nicole. Get over it already. NOT GUILTY MEANS NOT GUILTY!!! I don't think the songs have already been chosen for the King of Pop albums. Go to MJFanClub.com and there are links on latest news on this website. Just a note: I've noticed that Sony BMG is creating albums for MJs 50th Bday in roughly 5 or 6 countries overseas, maybe more. Why isn't there one being released from USA? I'm not sure if fans from USA can chose songs for the album as well. It appears its only for fans from that country.
