New York - Popstar Britney Spears' new album appeared on the internet in a surprise release Tuesday, one week before it was due to hit stands in the United States.
Television network MTV and record label Jive Records said that all tracks of the album Blackout could be heard at MTV.com. No reason was given for the early release.
The move comes after earlier complaints of tracks appearing unauthorized on the internet led the album's release date to be moved up from November 13 to October 30.
The first single from the album, Gimme More, is already the most downloaded song on the online music store iTunes and reached number 6 on the Billboard Charts. Blackout is Spears' first album in more than four years.
