Timberlake top nominee for American Music Awards

Los Angeles - Justin Timberlake is cementing his position as the reigning US king of pop after topping the nominees Tuesday for the American Music Awards.
Timberlake was nominated in the Favourite Male Artist, Pop/Rock category and for Favourite Album in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm & Blues categories for his FutureSex/LoveSounds album.
Beyonce will vie with Timberlake in the last category for her album B'Day. She was also nominated for Favourite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories. Also competing in those categories are Rihanna, Avril Lavigne and Fantasia.
Rockers Linkin Park face off with Timberlake in the Favourite Album, Pop/Rock category for their Minutes to Midnight. The LA-based outfit also racked up nominations for Favourite Band, Duo or Group, Pop/Rock and Favourite Artist, Alternative Rock.
Artists with two nods apiece include Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts, as well as rappers Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, TI and Young Jeezy. Other notable nominees include Timbaland, John Mayer, Jennifer Lopez and the cast of High School Musical 2.
The ceremony takes place on November 18 with performances planned by Celine Dion, Fergie and Rihanna. Winners will be decided by fans who can vote for their favourite artists through abc.com.
