Paul McCartney's Shrek songs

Sep 24, 2007, 20:12 GMT

Sir Paul McCartney is in talks to write the soundtrack for 'Shrek 4'.

The former Beatle is being lined up to pen the music for the next instalment of the hit animated franchise and may also have a small speaking role in the movie.

A source said: "Paul has been discussing the possibility of providing the soundtrack to the next 'Shrek' film.

"His hit 'Live and Let Die' was sung in the last movie at Shrek's father-in-law's funeral and was one of the funniest moments.

"If he says yes, Paul will compose a batch of original songs for the film and he could even voice a character."

The 65-year-old musician is said to be keen to be involved with the project because his three-year-old daughter Beatrice is such a huge fan of the green ogre.

Paul recently revealed he entertains Beatrice - his child with estranged wife Heather Mills - with impressions of Shrek, who is voiced by comic star Mike Myers in the movies.

He said: "I'm a huge fan of 'Shrek' as my little girl, who is three, loves it. I can do a really good impression of him - I put on my best Scottish accent!"

If Paul says yes to 'Shrek 4' it will not be the first time he has lent his musical talents to a film.

His hit Bond theme 'Live and Let Die' - which he recorded with his former band Wings - was nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar in 1974, while he was nominated again in the same category for the title track to 2001's 'Vanilla Sky'.

The Beatles won the Best Original Song Academy Award for the McCartney-penned 'Let It Be' in 1970.

The track featured in a documentary about the recording of the album of the same name.
