Simon Cowell: Britney's music career over

Simon Cowell claims Britney Spears could have killed her career after her disastrous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The music mogul says there's no way he would have let the 'Toxic' singer - who opened the Las Vegas ceremony on Sunday (09.09.07) - take to the stage if he was her manager.
The 'X Factor' judge told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "If I had been looking after Britney I'd have taken one look at her in rehearsals and I wouldn't have allowed her on the stage.
"The song wasn't right, the image wasn't right and she just wasn't rehearsed. If she'd turned up and given that performance on 'The X Factor' auditions I wouldn't have put her through to the next round.
"The problem she has now is that she could have killed her career. It's difficult to come back from that performance, for a while at least."
During her lip-syncing routine of new single 'Gimme More', the 25-year-old mother-of-two looked bleary eyed and unfit as she struggled to keep up with her energetic backing dancers, who threw themselves around stripper poles in an S+M-inspired set.
Despite Simon's damning view of her performance, Britney is being offered a second chance at a comeback by a US TV show.
Bosses at 'Extra' have invited Britney to their studios to "show the world what you've got".
A statement released by the programme said: "'Extra' is opening its doors to Britney Spears for a second chance at a comeback.
"We've made the call to Spears, inviting her to perform at 'Extra' on our stage in Los Angeles or in Las Vegas at the Extra Lounge in Planet Hollywood's Hotel and Resort.
"Britney come perform 'Gimme More' and show the world what you've got."

Brittney needs to take some serious time off and focus on healing herself. I think he she finds a way to make herself happy, as well as her kids, she may find the public more forgiving.

Brittney Spears, the poster child of what white trash is all about. First off, why should anyone REALLY care about what she or her counterpart bimbos (Paris, Lindsay, etc) are doing? To pay attention to their over-the-top behavior is to simply have them think it's acceptable....which it is NOT. Throw Brits fat-ass out on the street and see if she can survive without all that pampering. I'm betting she would wind up on her back, humping her way thru the day to get some money.

I'd really like to see Brit start showing some class. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but the girl needs to stop acting like a slut and grow up. I think she would have gotten 10 times more respect had she shown up in a nice outfit and just sang a nice simple ballad...not the hoochified 'Gimme More'
She needs to quit the drugs / drinking, and focus on being an entertainer. (get her skills back)She could come back, but sadly we've seen to many times entertainers take the lazy way out and just fade into oblivion. She'll be in and out of rehab, and eventually doing porn.

The only person who can kill Britneys' comeback is Britney herself. She needs to get a good fashion consultant, and actually listen to and follow their advice. She needs to do the same with a lawyer. She needs to tone down her image. The world is tired of seeing her 'assets'. While she looks good for the average woman, she is too heavy by the standards of the entertainment industry. The woman needs a mentor who has Britneys' best interests in mind and not making a fast buck. I would also like to see her embrace her own hair and not some fake extensions. We all know she shaved her head. I think it has grown enough now, for her to get something really cute done with it. Something spiky and sassy. Her fans would love it. I think it was a mistake for her to perform at the VMA's. Her new CD was getting some good hype and Gimme More has a really catchy, driving beat. She would have done well to let it stand on its own merit. The last thing she should have done was to show up in a trashy outfit and lip sync to a trashy routine. Unfortunately she is seen as being slutty by many individuals and doesn't seem to have enough sense to show some maturity and follow a good managers advice. If she would only listen...

Briney, take some time for your self. You are a star. Everyone knows that. Life is about learning and many have made much worse mistakes and 'boo boos' in their search for happiness. Be strong and turn your face from those who are pushing you down. Just take some time to recuperate. Only let those near you who really care for YOU as YOU..Britney.
Why is everyone so surprised? She was never more than a tool for others to make money with. This is business folks... She's just a Disney fabrication to generate income off of people dumb enough to buy her slickly produced garbage.
She was never really all that good to begin with. Her songs are so doctored in the studio that no one really knows what she really sounds like. She is the result of good marketing and image. Britney needs to move home for awhile(or something) and get herself stablized. I think she's great but obviously there's something wrong in her world.
Now that's a great idea! Everyone deserves a second chance and it seems like she needs more practice just to get her groove back again. I would say the more she performs, the better she will get where I've no doubt she'll soon be back to where she was a few years ago.
She's a good dancer but one can't just jump into that again after being gone from it for a few years. She needs more time but she's got to continue performing just to get used to it again.

Church is just going to make her worse, organized religion always does. She needs to get a babysitter, and practice full time the way she used to, she'll climb back to the top is she just gets back into the exercise and energy of dancing. Then she can go home to her babies like the rest of us working class do. Can't do much about her voice though, it'll always be bad.
Britney appearance on the MTV awards was a desperate attempt to somehow revive her career by those that want to get her making money again. She looked like she was at amateur night tryouts for a strip club. She does not display any serious commitment required to sustain, and further develop herself in a highly competitive industry. With all the promising up and coming talent available, any further attempts to promote her would be a costly waste of time, and money. Business is business, and at some point in the near future I think the production and promotion parties involved will realize it's time to cut the losses with this one.

Lip syncing is hard work. You have to know the words to your songs AND you need to be able to move your lips without actually making any sounds. That's not easy.

I think Simon just doesn't know how famous britney is. She will pul it off, the single 'Gimme More', hasn't been released yet and is already in the top ten in some countries, isn't this success?
