Rihanna wants to be the "black Madonna".
The 'Umbrella' singer respects the pop superstar's ability to reinvent herself and aspires to be just as successful.
She said: "I want to be the black Madonna.
"Any artist could have done the music which appeared on her first two albums but her latest songs were ones only a certain artist could do."
Meanwhile, Rihanna recently revealed how Jay-Z screens all her dates.
The 19-year-old beauty said prospective suitors must be approved by her protective hip-hop mentor before they are allowed to date her.
She said: "I just found out from a mutual friend that guys will talk to Jay first before they try to approach me.
"He's very protective. Jay has my best interests in mind. If it's a good guy I know Jay won't shut him down. But if he's not, Jay will be like, 'No, no, no.' "
Rihanna - who Jay-Z discovered and signed to his Def Jam record label - added the rapper never reveals who failed to make the cut.
She revealed: "He actually never tells me. I have no clue who they are and I guess I'll never know."

Please no.
She can never be Madonna.
No one can, and if anyone can, its will NEVER be her.
A few tattoos, wearing black, cutting your hair short will not make you a 'rock star' or the next 'black madonna'
Stop fooling yourself Robyn and go back to being the regualar R&B girl.
