British singer Morrissey has been forced to cancel several dates on his current U.S. tour due to a viral infection.
Concert promoters have reported the alt-rock performer visited an ear, nose and throat specialist, and was ordered to take a break from performing until July 7th. Morrissey is expected to return to the road with a makeup date in Boston.
Morrissey was about seven songs into a concert at Boston's Bank of America Pavilion on June 26th, and had to stop the show due to the illness. Following doctors' orders, the singer postponed the concert tour for five days – canceling shows in Northampton, MA; Philadelphia; and New York City. He returned to the stage on July 2nd, at Vienna, VA, but was still nagged by the illness – which forced him to return to the doctor and cancel more performances.
Scheduled performances on July 3, 5 and 6 in Baltimore; Atlantic City, NJ; and Holmdel, NJ, respectively, were postponed.
Concert organizers have issued a prepared statement saying: “An announcement will be made as soon as possible as to whether it is possible to reschedule any of these shows and, in the meantime, ticket holders should maintain possession of their tickets.”
Morrissey’s revamped dates include:
July 7 - Boston, MA - Bank of America Pavilion
9 - Norfolk, VA - The NorVa
10 - Knoxville, TN - Tennessee Theatre
12 - Clearwater, FL - Ruth Eckerd Hall
14 - Boca Raton, FL - Mizner Park Amphitheater
15 - Orlando, FL - Hard Rock Live
17 - Jacksonville, FL - Morocco Shrine Auditorium
19 - Birmingham, AL - Alabama Theatre
20 - Atlanta, GA - Chastain Park
21 - Myrtle Beach, SC - House of Blues

Moz fan in Los AngelesJul 10th, 2007 - 04:49:53
I am hopeful that SPM is given the time he needs to heal. A true fan will respect his need for rest, as I have. I was fortunate enough to see him here in LA last month, and he was wonderful-but I will say this. I am 15 years younger than him, healthy and athletic-and I know I could not keep up the pace he and his bandmates have gallantly done so on this US tour. Give the guy some credit-and some much needed rest. You'll get your show in time. Take care all-Moz fan in LA.
