Inside the buzzing hive of Smashing Pumpkins\' guitars is clearly where bandleader Billy Corgan feels most comfortable. So, after a seven-year hiatus for the short-lived group Zwan and his surprisingly sunny 2005 solo album, Corgan has revived the Pumpkins in all the six-string-spattered shades of emotional gray that made them one of the greatest bands of the alt-rock era. Longtime drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, along with famed boardsmiths Roy Thomas Baker ...more
With their sold-out nine-show residency in Asheville, NC fully underway and their
‘Zeitgeist’ album out July 10th, The Smashing Pumpkins have announced plans for a major North American fall concert tour.
Kicking off with a pair of festival performances (September 8 in Montreal and September 9 in Toronto), the trek will take the band to theatres and amphitheatres including Red Rocks in Denver. The fall tour – the band's first full-scale North American tour since 2000 - is highlighted by stops in such cities as Boston and Philadelphia where the group will perform multiple nights. Tickets go on sale July 14. Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins who pre-order the upcoming ‘Zeitgeist’ album on iTunes will receive a unique password to purchase pre-sale concert tickets on www.ticketmaster.com.
The Asheville residency concludes July 5 and will be followed by an 11-show run of sold-out shows at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco starting July 15, after which the group will return to Europe for 10 headlining and festival shows.
‘Zeitgeist’ (Martha's Music/Reprise) is the band's much-anticipated sixth album and first of new material since 2000. It features the first single "Tarantula," now positioned at #2 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart and #7 on the publication's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart after arriving at radio only a few weeks ago.
The album represents a powerful rebirth and reaffirmation of the Pumpkins by two of its key members, main singer-songwriter and guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. On the road, Billy and Jimmy have welcomed Jeff Schroeder (guitar) and Ginger Reyes (bass) to the line-up, which is supported by keyboardist Lisa Harriton.
Look for the Pumpkins to perform songs from ‘Zeitgeist’ on the "Late Show With David
Letterman" on both Monday, July 9 and Friday, July 13. Smashing Pumpkins Tickets are now available at M&C's Ticket Database. Tour dates include:
