The Verve reform

Jun 27, 2007, 7:00 GMT

The Verve have reformed.

The British band, fronted by Richard Ashcroft, have decided to get back together after almost a decade apart to tour and record new material.

In a joint statement, the band - which comprises of singer Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones and drummer Pete Sailsbury - said: "We are getting back together for the joy of music."

The four members met up in a London recording studio last week to test out material and plan to complete a new album by the end of the year.

They have also announced a mini-tour of the UK for the end of 2007.

The Verve - who endured numerous bust-ups and temporary splits - disbanded for good in 1999, after Ashcroft and McCabe's strained relationship finally snapped.

Their 1997 album 'Urban Hymns' achieved huge success and spawned a number of hit singles including 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' and 'The Drugs Don't Work'.

After the split, Ashcroft went on to release three solo albums, 'Alone With Everybody', 'Human Conditions' and 'Keys To The World'.

Tickets for the shows are due to go on sale on July 6.

The Verve tour dates:

Glasgow Academy November 2, 3

Blackpool Empress Ballroom 5, 6

London Roundhouse 8, 9

(C) BANG Media International
