U2 brings the rock to Cannes

U2 brought the rock to the Cannes' red carpet on Saturday with a performance before the screening of the band’s new concert movie U23D. The Irish rockers played a two-song set on the steps of the festival hall for a crowd that was said to number in the thousands.

Irish musician Bono of U2 performs on the red carpet during a concert for a gala screening of Irish director Catherine Owens' and US director Mark Pellington's film 'U2 3D' at the 60th Cannes Film Festival, 19 May 2007, in Cannes, France. EPA/DANIEL DEMEU23D was directed by Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington. The film follows the band during the Vertigo tour – where they performed a wide range of their hits such as “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” and “Beautiful Day.” It also features latest 3D technology.Rather than sporting the normal red/green lensed 3D glasses, the audience members were able to watch the U23D through glasses that were shaped like normal sunglasses. The 3D technology allows U2 to appear to leap into the audience throughout the 55-minute film. It is due for release in theaters later this year.
