Timberlake to bring back concert specials to HBO

Reigning pop king Justin Timberlake has already brought sexy back to the music charts and now he has announced plans to bring back the concert series genre to HBO.
Timberlake has announced his first concert special for HBO will be taped on August 16th at Madison Square Garden. The concert is part of the second U.S. leg of Timberlake’s current FutureSex/LoveShow world tour. The show will be aired on HBO on September 3rd. Timberlake’s concert will be the first concert special that HBO has aired since the 2003 special with rock icons The Rolling Stones.
The concert special is viewed as a risky venture due to several failed similar events that featured high-profile performers on other networks – such as NBC’s Madonna and Tony Bennett specials.
HBO's senior vice-president Nancy Geller has stated the decision to bring back the HBO concert special came down to timing for both HBO and Timberlake. She has also described Timberlake as a “classic” HBO star.
Timberlake was launched to stardom as part of the pop group 'N Sync, but has found even bigger success as a solo artist. His new album ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds,’ has featured several hit singles and sold more than 6 million copies. Timberlake also received two Grammys for the album.
