The Archbishop has dedicated his life to God and the doctrine he follows is very strict. He has every right in the United States of America to stand up for his beliefs and should. His followers hold him to a higher standard and he is living up to that standard. If I were one of his followers, I would expect him to respond in this manner.
I like Cheril
I like Sheryl Crow and think that the 'Hard Religios Right' seem to have a new redering of Jesus Christ. They have painted Chrisiantiy as a religon of intollerace. I doubt this was Christ's intention.
Christ was merciful only to the penitent, not those hardened in their sin. And Christianity has always been intolerant of what it perceives as sin and those who cause public scandal. In taking a hard line, the Bishop stands with the Apostles and Early Church Fathers.
One less pompus conservative in a position of power is a good thing. May this be the start of a trend.
Sheryl has publically campaigned for abortion and she has recorded advertisements for stem cell research which uses aborted embryo tissue.
The Catholic church is anti-abortion and against further harvesting of embryos for stem cell research.
Bobby Costas asks Sheryl to raise money for Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital at a weekend concert. Archbishop Raymond Burke says that would be a scandal since it sends the wrong message. The board refuses to drop Crow so Burke steps down and tells the media.
The Archbishop takes a stand and is verbally crucified. If he stayed on the board he would be the definition of hypocrisy.
If you don't take a stand folks, you'll fall for anything.
She wields such power! Think what this means. At the drop of a hat, Sheryl Crow is rooting out the religious right. If only all old dinosaurs gave up so easily, world peace might be within reach.
Ok, so, he stops doing his good deeds because of a singer. Someone here needs to pray to God he is doing the right thing. I am personally offended by his move. I understand his frustration, and I believe he is entitled to his views, however, this foundation will be forced to suffer because of his ego.
And if he is going to resign (on principle) because they hired Sheryl Crow as entertainment, shouldn't he already have resigned from the Catholic Church on principle that allowing some priests to molest children, and then move them to another parish to be around more children is wrong? Or how about the 'Good Catholics' that have killed people, in order to stop abortion? Isn't that against God's teaching as well? Should he have stepped down in protest then? Or perhaps he should step down when the Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul II have tried to strengthen the interfaith community by publicly defending the rights of people to believe in religions other than the Catholic Church (such as Islam and Judaism)? Catholicism certaintly teaches that there is only one true God, and to approve of another is against the 1st commandment. Why didn't he resign then?
What I am trying to point out, is that by stepping down for something so insignificant as a pop star's views on different issues, he makes himself not into the martyr that he is trying to, but instead makes himself into a hypocrite for not standing up to more important issues with the same courage and devoutness.
He is trying to demonize Sheryl, who, is only trying to help out the charity. Not all who believe in differnt sides of the issues are evil. And, just like all Catholics aren't Angels, not all non-catholics are entirely evil.
So, Goodbye and Good Riddence to a Hypocrite, who believes his views and opinions are worth more than the lives Sheryl (and the Board) is trying to help.
Hello, nice site :)
