Snoop and Diddy wearing out welcome in UK

A rapper's delight? Or a rapper's dilemma?

Two American rappers are making waves in jolly old England, and they aren't exactly good ones at that. First, there is Snoop Dogg, who is urging the English government to rethink his visa denial.

Snoop Dogg's visa application was denied and he may have to forget the UK leg of his and Puff Diddy's European tour, after he was refused entry due to his very real and serious criminal record.

According to MTV, Snoop, who is scheduled in to play London's Wembley arena tomorrow (March 27), said, "With my mic and my presence I can reach kids the politicians can't and tell them to stop the violence and killings that are currently going on in the UK.

"I'm here to perform and give people what they want - to be a peace figure. Me and Puffy come from a background where with the east coast and the west coast there were a lot of diferences in the hip hop community. But now we want to go around the world and show positive examples in the UK."

Snoop was apologetic for his criminal past, but apologies may be too little, too late.

"I think if people could hear me saying this they'd see I'm about peace, love and harmony," he told MTV.

"To be stopped at the door of England where the hip hop scene is big and great rappers like Slick Rick came from, is bad.

Along with Dogg, rapper Puff P Diddy has shocked English promoters with his over the top demands.

The music mogul, who is touring the UK this week, reportedly insisted London's The Collection Club provided luxury cars and £150,000 in expenses.

The Collection Club, who offered to host Diddy's after-show party for free tomorrow (27.03.07), were stunned by the request for a £77,000 chauffeur-driven Masarati Quattroporte, a Ferrari cake, £240,000 Rolls-Royce, £287,000 Mercedes Maybach and three black SUV vehicles.

Who on earth wants some overpaid yob singer to come to Britain, except some moronic fans who one assumes have nothing better to do with their lives than listen to such rubbish

If the demands are genuine, then clearly something is wrong here, these guys will make money from their tour, and they should be funding their own expenses? And if it hikes the ticket prices so far that no one turns up? Really lets not forget this is not life, it is entertainment, so what!

Oh here come the closet racists and their opinions... While I agree that these Hip Hop Rappers tend to portray a life of over expense, one has to realise that they didn't create that lifestyle on their own. The marketers and companies who jumped on the advertising bandwagon are making a lot more money for themselves!!

Snoop Dog and Puffy does need to realise however that they are not really creating a positive roll model with their outrageous demands and antics but is in fact influencing and undercurrent of Influenceable youths who thinks expensive things should be easy to come by. I hope they realise that they themselves need to continue raising their game in to entertaining music lovers globally and truly leading by example.

Does this 'roll' model contain cheese or ham ? Guess you mean 'role' ? Isn't modern education wonderful ?

You completely avoided the most sensible and thought out point, and the issue in general to try and discredit someone by pointing out a single minor spelling error and make massive assumptions about someone's educational background. (And by the way the syntax of your second sentence lacked the sunject pronoun I assume you wanted to put in there.

Oops, I said sunject instead of subject - quick, slap me an ASBO!

I don't see why it is shocking that snoops visa is denied? The USA will ban you from crossing its borders if you openly dissent against G Bush or the Republican Party. This man has a criminal record as long as his entourage. Not to mention the last time he was in Heathrow him and his bouncers beat up a bunch of staff and police officers. Famous people can get away with almost everything, but come on...

i hate the english governmentMar 26th, 2007 - 22:05:06

This is absolutely rediculous. Snoop Dogg should be allowed into this country to perform to people, including me, who have paid good money too see him. there are prople in this country with a longer list of crime than Snoop's and what do they get, a lousy ASBO, like it makes any difference, but NO, they ban Snoop from the UK instead. I am a youth myself and can accurately say that this is only making people angry. Snoop Dogg is promoting peace on his tour, its all about showing the love, not promoting the hate and holding grudges, which is exactly the message the home office is sending out by doing this. When another 15 year old gets shot on his doorstep, we can all blame the government for promoting anger and hate. no wonder people hate the english. So with this message, british government, let Snoopy Dogg come and perform to the british youths and send out the love. So come on british government, SHOW THE LOVE. XxXxXxXxXxXxX

What an interesting article, I wasn't aware that there was an English government, I was always under the impression it was the British government.

Snoop Dog has been refused entry because of his criminal record, it is hardly unusual for visas to be rejected for foreign nationals who have a criminal record, it sets more of an example to British youth refusing him than to allow him entry, if you can't do the time then don't do the crime.

If more countries enforced their laws and refused entry to celebrities with criminal records then they might eventually realise that breaking the law is bad for their career and they might stop doing it, then when we have celebrities who don't abuse the law we will have real role models.

DB - I completely agree with Gingers comment.

I am sorry, but that was a deserved comment.

Just add 'and' instead of 'an', 'marketers' instead of 'marketeers', 'does need to' which should be 'do need to', 'is in fact' instead of 'are in fact', 'and undercurrent' instead of 'an undercurrent', 'thinks expensive' instead of 'think expensive'.

Just for good measure, I would have chosen the word 'impressionable' rather than 'influenceable' after already using the word 'influence' on the same line.

I think it looks SO stupid to pose what appears to be an intelligent sounding opinion, making great effort to carefully chose clever-sounding words - and not at least check it by some 14 year old English student first.

Oh yeah, I was hoping for some controversy by reading this article and I found some - cooooooooool.

Whoops - chose - that's a typo, not a lack of knowledge of English.

Anyway, he and his entourage kicked off in an airport.

Hard cheese I would say at the risk of plagiarism.

It could be a good thing.

A bit of controversy.

Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' roll. Oh, and peace and love.

If snoop can associate himself with that kind of stuff and they brought him in next year, it could be a winner for everyone.

It is interesting what is happening. I don't like rap myself, however I have to admit in some of snoops stuff he does seem to show some real skill (each to their own).

If snoop really is about conciliation, then lets get conciliating. Might as well try and make something good out of this.

I think the government have fair grounds to keep him out this time.

Kicking off in an airport - tut tut.

While I appreciate that Rap is a clever use of language and rhyme it is well past it's sell by date now.

It's passe and rather boring, as is the puerile 'gangsta' image of these over paid and under educated people.

And perhaps more one of the previous correspondents would be better paying for additional English lessons rather than wasting money on this tired old genre.

I find it somewhat laughable that Snoop says he can help bring an end to the spate of shootings in this country. Surely, it's the very gangster image that he and his record company have promoted so profitably that caused the rise in gang culture here in the first place.
