An amazing thing about Elton John is that he is one of the few artists who are still viable at such an advanced age. There were those, I recall, back in the 70's that dismissed his music as lightweight and doubted his staying power. Even he had his doubts.
Like the Beatles, the Stones and Dylan, Sir Elton (this is a crazy wotld where an eccentric rock star can be knighted.) is at home with many different musical genres. Like the latter two his concerts cannot be considered as 'oldie revivals' as Mr John brings something new into each performance.
I recall in 1970 when '60 years On' came out on the Elton John album. I was 14 and like many that age shared the sentiment of aging as nothing to look forward to. Obviously times have changed and the generation I grew up in had a part in changing these conception about 'maturity'. On the other hand, I was glad to hear that Mr John did not dress like he did back then.
What's also of note is the appearance of the boomer poster boy Bill Clinton who is also 60 years on. While it doesn't seem like to long ago. actually 15 years ago that the Clinton's and the Gore's were bogeying to another icons (Fleetwod Mac's) music 15 years is a long time in a world that wants tomorrow yesterday. This makes that 40 year career of Elton John seem like an eternity.
To sum this up I need to go further back and summon the signature line of an even earlier icon Bob Hope. Elton, thanks for the memories ( and making me feel old (lol)).

Add to all of the wonderful things about Elton John and his past is that he (and Bernie Taupin) has a new CD out that is absolutely teriffic. It is called The Captin and The Kid. Just about every song is great. I have not been able to stop listening to it. It's amazing that he and Bernie Taupin are still creating great music.
