Music industry group goes on warpath against college students

The Recording Industry Association of America has mailed out 405 "pre-litigation letters" which demand as much as $5,000 from students at 23 universities. The letters are part of a campaign by the group to stop illegal file-sharing on college campuses across the country. Boston University students received the most attention from the group with 50 letters sent to the campus.More than 18,000 people in the U.S. have been sued by music companies and the industry group for allegedly violating copyright infringement with illegal downloading of product. The industry has blamed the downloading problem for the decline of music sales.At the beginning of March, The Recording Industry Association of America sent out as many as 400 pre-litigation letters to about 13 campuses across the country.
