Columbia announce the arrival of The Automatic Automatic to the U.S.

By Patrick Luce Mar 22, 2007, 0:22 GMT

Columbia Records will release an American version of ‘Not Accepted Anywhere,’ the best-selling debut album from the emerging Welsh rock band The Automatic Automatic, on Tuesday, June 26th.

Already great favorites on the European concert and festival scene - the band delivered unforgettable sets at Oxegen 2006, NME's New Bands Tour 2006, and the Reading and Leeds Festivals - The Automatic Automatic made its American stage debut at this year's South By Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas in advance of the group's performance at the New York underground venue, Pianos, on March 19.

The Automatic Automatic has been invited to perform on the Vans Warped Tour '07 from June 28 through July 23. The band's audacious blend of electronica, dance music, and punk-rock-metal has already earned the band widespread critical acclaim, legions of fans, a string of hit singles, and a #3 chart-peak for the gold certified ‘Not Accepted Anywhere’ in the UK.

Currently based in Cardiff, Wales, The Automatic Automatic - Rob Hawkins (lead vocals, bass guitar), James Frost (guitar, vocals), Alex Pennie (synths, keyboards, vocals), Iwan Griffiths (drums) - first met in primary school and, in November 2005, released a limited edition independent single, "Recover." That same year, the group took home The Pop Factory Music Award, voted for by the Welsh public, for "Best New Act."

The band's second single, "Raoul," reached #32 (a re-release of the song hit #30 in January 2007) on the UK singles chart while the group's third offing, "Monster," peaked at #4 on the UK singles chart after entering that chart the previous week at #23 based solely on online download sales. The Automatic Automatic recorded a new, more powerfully-realized version of "Recover," which peaked #25 in September 2006.

Released in the UK on June 19, 2006, The Automatic Automatic eagerly-anticipated debut album, ‘Not Accepted Anywhere’ - peaked at #3 on the UK album charts and has gone on to achieve UK gold record status.
