Israeli green light as EBU approves all Eurovision entries

Helsinki - All 42 national entries to the Eurovision Song Contest were Wednesday given the all clear to participate in the upcoming competition, the European Broadcasting Union said. A reference group from EBU thereby eliminated earlier speculation that the entry from Israel, titled Push The Button, may have been pulled as being too political with lyrics that alluded to the threats of terrorism and possible nuclear war. The veteran group Teapacks that hails from the southern Israeli town of Sderot was slated to perform the song. The EBU reference group reviewed all 42 entries regarding lyrics and music, the length of each song, the number and age of the performers, the EBU said. Finland hosts the final May 12 since monster rockers Lordi won last year's event in Athens. A semi-final May 10 was due to select 10 entries from 28 competing countries that were to join the 14 nations including the top-10 from the 2006 Athens event along with France, Germany, Spain and Britain that were already guaranteed a spot in the final.
