Rocker Eddie Van Halen in rehab

Eddie Van Halen, the guitar wizard from the 80’s rock giant Van Halen, has checked himself into a rehabilitation center for alcohol addiction. The news comes days after rumors began to flood the Internet that Van Halen’s reunion tour with former singer David Lee Roth was in jeopardy and right before they are to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Eddie Van Halen issued a statement to the band’s fans on the group’s website saying: "I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That's why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110 percent that I feel I owe you and want to give you."Van Halen had announced plans to hit the road with Roth for a 40-date North American tour this summer, but tickets never went on sale. Rolling Stone reported towards the end of Feburary that the tour would not be happening, and the Los Angeles Times went so far as to put the blame on Eddie Van Halen’s alcohol consumption.In the statement, Eddie Van Halen addressed the tour issues and his reasons for entering rehab: "Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to chance and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I'm doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of."It is not known if Eddie Van Halen or any member of Van Halen will be on hand when the band is inducted into the Hall of Fame. Velvet Revolver is set to perform at the ceremony in Van Halen’s place. Slash and Scott Weiland are scheduled to induct the band. The ceremony will be held on Monday in New York.

He has had such a hard time with this for so long. I hope he does well. He is a huge influence on me and countless other players the world over. Regardless of the perceived 'Rock Star lifestyle' crap that many will attribute this to, this man has had to deal with a lot of stress in his personal life for a very long time, and he's only human. Good luck Ed. The best is yet to come.
