Singer/songwriter Seal’s bid to overturn a British court decision was lost on Wednesday when Court of Appeal Judge Roger Toulson dismissed the Grammy singer’s request to overturn a High Court ruling which said former manager John Wadlow was owed unpaid commissions from the singer’s first two albums.

The court ruled the singer owed the ex-manager for the two albums based on a management agreement between the two men, and a 1995 settlement – which was signed by Seal (whose real name is Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel). In June, 2006, the singer was ordered by the court to pay Wadlow $922,000 (which is considered an interim payment).
Seal has argued that the two agreements shouldn’t be upheld due to his manger’s use of "undue influence." However, the judge ruled the terms of the settlement were "not unreasonable or oppressive."
Seal, who was a partner with Wadlow in Beethoven Street Studios in 1987, released his first album in 1991, and his second in 1994. Both album were No. 1 hits on the British charts.
