Climaxing an intense pre-release campaign, ‘Infinity on High’ - the long-awaited new album by multi-platinum, two-time MTV VMA award-winning Island Records group Fall Out Boy, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart this week with a first week combined sales of 259,674 units. The release is also the #1 Digital Album, with digital sales of 27,939 units.
Fall Out Boy will headline this year’s “Honda Civic Tour” of North America, supported by +44 (featuring Honda Civic Tour alumnae Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus, formerly of blink-182), The Academy Is…, Paul Wall, and Cobra Starship.
The new album explodes on the strength of “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” the first single pick, which bulleted to #1 last month on the Pop 100 charts, and #2 debut on the Hot 100 – the highest debut by a rock band since Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” in 1998. The “…Arms Race” video held the #1 spot on MTV’s TRL for 2 consecutive weeks. The track is also the #1 Digital Track & Song for four consecutive weeks, with sales of 101,076 units.
In the digital space, Fall Out Boy took over. They have set the record for most consecutive weeks as #1 streaming artist on Clear Channel radio station web sites (5 weeks and counting), performed at AOL Music Sessions as well as an AOL Live event from the legendary Roxy Theatre this past Saturday night.
Fall Out Boy took over the entire MySpace music page for the week. As a result, a record was set at MySpace with the largest number of audio streams by a band in one day. Yahoo! Music also launched an exclusive Pepsi Smash performance of the band. The band was locked in at #1 on the purevolume.com chart last week and currently has the #1 most trafficked artist website in the US.
The anticipation is building to Fall Out Boy’s return to the U.S. – after their extended early-2007 tour of Europe, Australia and the Far East.
Dates are already selling-out for the tour, which opens April 18th at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte, and ends with a triumphant two-night hometown Chicago stand at Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island, June 10-11th. Tickets are on sale now.
‘Infinity on High’ is the follow-up to ‘From Under The Cork Tree,’ Fall Out Boy’s Island debut - which has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide since its release in May 2005. The new album reunites the group with longtime A&R executive Rob Stevenson, along with Neal Avron, who produced, recorded and mixed Cork Tree. The new album also finds Fall Out Boy working with megastar hitmaking R&B producer Babyface for the first time.
After winning the coveted MTV2 Award in 2005 (for their first Island single, “Sugar, We’re Going Down”), Chicago’s Fall Out Boy – Patrick Stump (vocals/guitar), Pete Wentz (bass), Joe Trohman (guitar), and Andy Hurley (drums) – picked up their second consecutive moonman this past September, when the video for their second Island single (“Dance, Dance”) won 2006’s MTV VMA Viewers Choice Award. They also received last year’s Grammy nomination in the highly competitive Best New Artist category.
Formed on Chicago’s hardcore scene in 2000, Fall Out Boy built their loyal fanbase online and on tours such as the annual Vans Warped Tour and Nintendo Fusion package tours of 2005. Since headlining their first major market headlining North American arena tour in spring 2006 (with All-American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights and From First To Last), they have appeared on the covers of Spin, Blender, and Alternative Press and have performed on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, and more.
