They announced they were back with a performance in the opening minutes of the 49th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, and now The Police have announced they are hitting the road for a reunion tour expected to last throughout the year. The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday at Hollywood’s Whisky a Go Go.
The tour (which has been rumored to be coming for weeks) will be the first time that the three members of The Police (Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland) have toured together in 23 years and is expected to begin on May 28th at the GM Arena in Vancouver. The band is expected to remain on the road throughout 2006 playing arenas and stadiums around the world.
The group is also expected to headline this year’s Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn on June 16th. The tour will have about 80 dates scheduled with 24 concerts being held in North America.
