Im sorry but this is just a terrible idea...
Its sad because I got myself all pumped up and ready, my Christmas gift was a front row ticket to Ozzfest with Party Like a Rockstar....theres no way im getting that now...
other bad reason for this being free.
-This is a metalhead strictly fest, and now ppl are just going to be coming beacuse 'oh, well I have a free day and this is free so why not check it out?'
no.
terrible idea.
and there are going to be far too many fights because of ppl who arent used to the metal fanatics getting on each-others nerves...I see it now...
not a good idea.
at.all.
Plus, who is going to want to play all summer for the price of it being free?
Sounds like a crappile of bands... and even if not...its just going to be to out of control to get in...once again...bad idea.
Landis Your SUCH a big baby!, And Highly Misinformed.
I think this is the best idea that has happened this century. I truely respect the Osbourne's respect for their fans by creating a free concert. By doing so, in my opinion, this concert is a tribute to the fan, whom without their fans, Ozzy Osborne and all other big time musicians would be nothing. This should be an example for all other musicians who have made it big. They should at least put on one free concert a year.
jfc.. people bitch even when something is free
Nothing wrong with giving something back to the fans. And so what if there's a ruckus; it's not like it's a soccer game (free riot gear for the first 1000 kids in the door). Hey Ozz and Sharon, thanks.
I've been going to Ozzfest religiously since 2000; that's six years in a row! Last year was the first time I didn't go. Mainly because I no longer felt like paying such an inflated price to see a handful of bands I've either already seen or just don't care so much about. There were much better ways to get my money's worth last year, with tours such as Sounds of the Underground, Taste of Chaos, and Warped Tour. You have to understand what's going on in the music industry right now: CD's aren't selling, so labels are having to take cuts of bands' concerts and tours. That's raising the price of concert tickets. And now that summer fests have proven so successful, there is more competition than ever. For right now, audiences are willing to dish out entire paychecks to see all their favorite artists on one stage. But if this trend continues, fans will become more reluctant to do so, and will start looking towards other forms of entertainment. Two examples of this are Lollapalooza's failed tour in 2004, which saw extremely poor ticket sales. And Woodstock '99, which saw mass rioting due in part to the audience's disappointment with the unreasonable prices. Sharon and The Osbornes are trying to prevent either of those scenarios becoming a reality with Ozzfest, which is a breeding ground for teen angst and rebellion. I completely agree with and respect Sharon's idea. I think its brilliant, revolutionary, and a step in the right direction. She's taking the initiative to turn things around before its too late. This could be the future of not only live entertainment, but the music industry as a whole.
It sounds cool, but the press release doesn't say how they are going to pay the costs of the festival. We are talking about 25 dates here. How can they do this whole thing for free? I know Ozzy is rich, but I don't think he or anyone else wants to pay for 25 free concerts. The money has to come from somewhere to pay for the bands and venues.
Trust me, Ozzy is getting paid or at least having his expenses covered. Other bands should get the same. Sure, a free ticket is nice for fans, but the bands who play will be the ones footing the bill. Everyone else involved will still get their paycheck. Bands with big paydays are the exception, not the rule - and you won't be seeing the likes of them on this tour. Would you work at your job, having to hire a crew, pay for equipment, travel and lodging across the county for no pay, while everyone else around you is making money? All for the chance of maybe landing a paycheck sometime in the future? Bands already make nothing on album sales, now they're making them pay to go to work on the road. It sucks.
If this experiment works, subsidising touring cost through advertising, it may set precedent for future tours while 'bringing the music back to the people'. These days bands make their primary income from touring at the expense of fans, literally. If we can offload that expense back to big business in lieu of target marketing, I'm all for it - maybe I'll start going to bigger venue shows again.
Look at the release, kids. It says the thing is going to be paid for by sponsors. That means commercials. Throughout the concert. That means that the Fest and all other events of it ilk will simply be ways to get several thousand consumers in one place at one time and sell them loads of crap. Ozzie gets his percentage for being the sideshow freak that brings in the bodies to watch the commercials.
Have fun.
