Arctic Monkeys to headline Glastonbury

Jan 26, 2007, 12:20 GMT

The Arctic Monkeys are to headline the Glastonbury music festival this year.

The event's organisers have announced the Sheffield rockers, who took the UK by storm last year, are the first confirmed headline act for this summer's musical extravaganza.

Eccentric Icelandic singer Bjork has also been confirmed to perform at the world famous event this summer.

Co-organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC: "We're absolutely thrilled to be able to put Bjork and the Arctic Monkeys on because both are firm favourites in our household.

"The Arctic Monkeys have never done it so this will be their first year and Bjork has done the festival a few times now and is absolutely fantastic."

Michael Eavis, organiser and owner of the Somerset farm where the festival takes place, said most of the line-up has now been finalised, but won't be announced until after April 1 when tickets go on sale.

U2, Coldplay and The Killers are all rumoured to be filling the remaining headlining spots.

After a year's absence, Michael has promised that this year's Glastonbury will be the biggest and best yet.

Extra measures are being taken to stamp out ticket touts and people trying to enter the festival without official tickets.

Fans will have to pre-register to be in with a chance of securing a ticket and provide photo ID.

Registration will be available between February 1and February 28 at www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk

Where do you get your info from?

'U2, Coldplay and The Killers are all rumoured to be filling the remaining
headlining spots'????

So why has Michael Eavis categorically stated that U2 aren't performing? Next up you'll be saying he's confirmed RHCP (as other crap publications have), when he's said no such thing.

Still, it's the funniest thing I've seen or heard today - you've put a smile on my face.
