Rocker Gilby Clarke (guitarist for Rock Star: Supernova and former guitarist for Guns N’ Roses) celebrates his career as a singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer with the release of ‘Gilby Clarke’ – which also sees Clarke team up with Rock Star: Supernova runner-up Dilana on one track.
Clarke's career has been marked by a singular devotion to no-frills balls-out rock, whether he’s producing, singing his own material or collaborating with a wide assortment of artists.
The album is being released on Jan.30th from Spitfire Records for the suggested retail price of $13.98. It features 14 tracks from Clarke’s solo catalog, two from his days in the criminally-ignored Colonel Parker with ex-Stray Cat Slim Jim Phantom, and Dilana on a track titled “Black.”
CBS-TV’s Rock Star: Supernova put the former Guns N’ Roses guitarist (he replaced Izzy Stradlin) in a band with Metallica/Voivod bassist Jason Newsted and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee in a reality-show search for a lead singer. The show proved so successful, Gilby will be hitting the road with a touring version (with Train/Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt and winning singer Lukas Rossi) on Jan. 16th.
Clarke (who is described as a versatile guitar player who is as comfortable with Axl Rose as he is playing with Nancy Sinatra, Michael Jackson or the MC5) has also produced LA Guns and others. His career has been marked by a singular devotion to no-frills balls-out rock, whether he’s producing, singing his own material or collaborating with a wide assortment of artists.
The album ‘Gilby Clarke’ is said to derive its strength from its sinewy sonic dexterity, as taken from his catalog of solo albums – including ‘Pawnshop Guitars’ (1994), ‘The Hangover’ (1997), ‘Rubber’ (1998), ‘’99 Live’ and ‘Swag’ (2002).
