Stone Roses Ian Brown's McCartney collaboration
Jan 6, 2007, 8:00 GMT
Ian Brown wants to record a song with Sir Paul McCartney.
The former Stone Roses singer is currently recording his latest solo album, tentatively titled 'The World Is Yours', and he is desperate to get the former Beatle to play bass on one of the tracks.
Brown told Britain's NME magazine: "I'm trying to get McCartney. I spoke to his assistant. I was like, 'My name's Ian Brown and I'm a singer ', and she was like, 'Yeah, I've heard of you.' RAK studios, where I'm recording the album, is only around the corner from where he lives. I'm keeping my fingers crossed."
Brown has already enlisted the services of former The Smiths and Happy Mondays bass players Andy Rourke and Paul Ryder for the LP but although he thinks both are great musicians he doesn't think either come close to McCartney's bass prowess.
The 'FEAR' singer is even prepared to change the release date of the album so McCartney can perform on it.
He added: "I don't mind waiting for him! I'd put the whole record back for him. I just think in the last 40 years, no-one has touched McCartney on the bass. It's a bit of a pipe dream, but if you don't ask you don't get, so I'm going for it."
Brown is also rumoured to be recording a duet with controversial Irish singer Sinead O'Connor for the LP, which is due to come out in late 2007.
