Former Phish guitarist says he is not guilty of drug and DUI charges

Former Phish rocker Trey Anastasio appeared before a New York judge on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charge of drug possession and DUI. Anastasio, 42, was detained by Whitehall police after they observed his vehicle weaving in the early hours of Dec. 15th. Police officers have stated a number of prescription-strength pain and anti-anxiety medication (that was not prescribed to the musician) was discovered in the car.Due to the amount of pills discovered, prosecutors could seek to change the charge to a felony if it goes to a grand jury , and the change will depend on further discussion between prosecutors and Anastasio’s attorneys, according to statements from Washington County District Attorney Kevin Kortright.Following his arrest, Anastasio, who has been working as a solo artist since Phish broke up in 2004, apologized for the incident stating he was “deeply sorry for any embarrassment I have caused my friends, family and fans.”
