Pop star George Michael to appear in court to face driving charges

Pop singer George Michael has a date in court, scheduled for January 11th, to answer charges of being unfit to drive, according to the London Metropolitan Police.
Michael, who is 43, was arrested on Oct. 2, 2006, after police received complaints concerning a car blocking an intersection in north London. When the police investigated the complaint, Michael was discovered passed out inside the vehicle. The singer was issued a caution for possession of marijuana. He was later released on bail for the charges of being unfit to drive.
Michael has been an influence on pop music since he rose to fame as part of the 1980s duo Wham! He achieved even greater success as a solo artist.
He had legal trouble throughout 2006 - such as a possession of marijuana warning in February. He was also involved in an accident where he hit three parked cars in April of 2006. Michael claimed to be a “terrible driver” when questioned about the incident in a later interview, and explained he was trying to move his car out of a parking spot.
