Peas and Peppers win at American Music Awards

Los Angeles - The Black Eyed Peas and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the big winners at the 2006 American Music Awards which were presented in a star-studded gala in Los Angeles Tuesday night. The hip-hop quartet was named favorite group in the rap/hip hop and soul/rhythm & blues categories. They also won favorite rap/hip-hop album for Monkey Business. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were named favourite alternative artist and pop/rock band. Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson won the categories for pop/rock female and adult contemporary artist, while Rascal Flatts won favorite country group. Mary J Blige won the award for best soul/rhythm & blues album for The Breakthrough and was also named favourite female R&B artist. Jamie Foxx was named favorite male soul/rhythm & blues artist. Eminem was favorite male rap/hip-hop artist, Nickelback took home the trophy for pop/rock album and dancehall singer Sean Paul was named favorite male pop/rock artist. Shakira won favorite Latin artist. Britney Spears made a surprise appearance to give Blige her prize, and she was one of many A-list celebrities to make the show. Beyonce, The Pussycat Dolls, Nelly Furtado and Gwen Stefani all gave performances and were followed by rapper Jay-Z, Lionel Richie and Barry Manilow.
