Black Sabbath form Heaven and Hell without Ozzy
By M&C News Oct 26, 2006, 15:01 GMT
The original heavy metal godfathers of Black Sabbath have returned as the new band Heaven and Hell, but this time they are minus the madman Ozzy Osbourne.
Guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward and metal singer Ronnie James Dio have joined together to return to rock, but they are shedding the Black Sabbath name and taking a new moniker from their 1980 hit, according to their publicist. The boys will be hitting the road for an international tour next year.
"The fans have been wanting to see this for years and years. Now was just the time," publicist Maureen O'Connor said Wednesday.
Although Black Sabbath is one of the most influential heavy metal bands ever, the group has undergone considerable line-up changes since they first took the stage in 1969. There have also been several reunions of the original members – including Osbourne.
Dio has also toured with the band as Black Sabbath after he replaced Osbourne as the group’s singer in the early 1980s. He has also carved out a place in heavy metal history for his own solo projects and albums without the other Sabbath members.
