Janet Jackson's Kid Dupri quits Virgin
Oct 26, 2006, 14:00 GMT
Janet Jackson's boyfriend has quit his job after her new album '20 Y.O.' flopped.
Grammy-winning music producer Jermaine Dupri had been president of Virgin Records' urban division since January 2005.
In statement he said: "Since there are so many rumors running rampant about my position at Virgin Records, I feel that it is necessary to set the record straight.
"I was not forced out of the company, I made a decision that it was in my best interest to leave."
'20 Y.O.' opened with average sales of 296,000 copies - Janet's smallest debut week since her 1997 album 'The Velvet Rope'.
Her previous release, 2004's 'Damita Jo', also underperformed with first-week sales of 381,000 copies.
Meanwhile, Janet and Justin Timberlake will be reunited for the first time since "nipplegate".
The pair are reportedly being lined up to appear together in "some sort of big, live show like the Grammys or the Oscars".
A source said: "A reunion will help re-boost the sales of their albums."
Janet recently revealed she hasn't spoken to Justin since the infamous 2004 Superbowl 'wardrobe malfunction'.
She said: "We haven't spoken but I consider him a friend, and I'm very loyal. Friendship is very important to me."

I didn't surprise me that this album sucked. The first single was a mess, the second single was alright but didn't generate enough heat. When I got the album, I listend to it and soon put it away in my vast collection of C.D's.
Better luck next time Janet, remember, 3 striks you're out!
i think the album is great. if you are a true janet jackson fan you wouldn't count her out yet. she has been doing this long before beyonce, britney, rihanna, and many more.she is a trailblazer and she only getting started
I love the album, I think the first four tracks have great beats. Music you can dance to at the clubs. Based and her record sells does not discredit her as being the greatest female artist alive. I think being 'Janet Jackson' comes with high expectations anyway ,and any time people expects the same results that took place twenty years ago, they will come up short everytime, because the music has not change the world has changed. I think cultural differences have made a lot of our black artist career difficult in some form or another, either to build it up ,or tear it you down. The more famous you become the more powerful your enemy becomes in which Janet's case (the pencil pushers). If I could say something to Janet it would be its not your music that the people are questioning its the people you have around you that should be supporting you. THE BIG PEOPLE. Because there is a boomerang effect ,and beleive me it is always someone,or something that causes the effect.I am so glad that you have someone like Jermaine Dupree in your life who really has your best interest at heart.I was happy to hear that he made a decision to leave Virgin, it could be a rumor , but I hope it is true because I think SO SO Def has more meaning because a young black man's vision came to life * stay focus. Me & Jermaine on your side you could never go wrong!!! God bless...

Janet what's up? First Damita Jo sucked & now 20 Y.O. went to sour land too. We know Miss J. has the goods so why she ain't delivering? I don't think her being 40 has anything to do with it? Look at Madonna who at age 48 released 'Confessions On A Dance Floor.' which was a mega hit & spawned a sold out tour putting Madonna in the top position as the number one female musician of all time! C'mon Janet next time try harder - three strikes you're out!
