Chinese government says Jay-Z too hardcore for concert
By M&C News Oct 11, 2006, 15:35 GMT
The Chinese government Ministry of Culture has denied rapper Jay-Z’s proposed concert in Shanghai’s Hongkou Football Stadium because of the “vulgar language” used on the performer’s albums.
The Ministry of Culture denied allowing KS Productions, the Chinese promotional company trying to organize the concert, the permits needed for the show.
The decision has met with a backlash from critics and fans of the rapper who point out that the same Ministry of Culture granted permits for concerts that featured The Black Eyed Pea and The Rolling Stones. Both concerts were stated as having questionable lyrics.
Jay-Z is currently on a world tour with ten dates left. The tour started in Amsterdam, Holland and will finish in Melbourne, Australia. He is also scheduled to visit Africa with concerts in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa.
